Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive


What is RoHS?

RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) is a mandatory European Union directive that restricts the use of specific hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (EEE).

The directive aims to protect human health and the environment by reducing the use of harmful materials during product manufacturing, usage, recycling, and disposal.

Applicable Directives:

  • 2011/65/EU (RoHS 2)

  • Amendment (EU) 2015/863 (RoHS 3)


Restricted Substances under RoHS

RoHS restricts the following 10 hazardous substances:

  • Lead (Pb)

  • Mercury (Hg)

  • Cadmium (Cd)

  • Hexavalent Chromium (Cr⁶⁺)

  • Polybrominated Biphenyls (PBB)

  • Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers (PBDE)

  • Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP)

  • Butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP)

  • Dibutyl phthalate (DBP)

  • Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP)
